Carmarthenshire County Council continues its efforts as the county recovers from the impact of the flooding that occurred earlier this week (Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 November).
Crews are continuing to assess highway networks and associated infrastructure, carrying out necessary repairs as needed.
As of today, the following roads remain closed due to flood damage or ongoing safety assessments:
- Meidrim Bridge
- Glangwili Factory Bridge along the unclassified road U2096
- Between Llanfynydd and A40 Pontargothi (C2053) near the property Graig Yr Afar
Additional crews and resources will also be on standby over the weekend in response to the impact of the flooding.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Linda Davies Evans, said: “Our teams continue to work tirelessly to support residents, repair our highways and assess the damage caused by this week’s flooding. I want to thank everyone involved for their ongoing efforts and the community for their resilience during what has been a very challenging time.”
The Council continues to provide both practical and financial support to households and businesses affected by internal flooding.
- A £500 payment is available for households that have experienced internal flooding.
- An additional £1,000 is available for householders without insurance.
- The Council can also assist with the removal of damaged goods and furniture, but residents should contact their insurance provider first for advice before submitting requests.
Flooding advice from Public Health Wales
If you have been affected by flooding:
- Follow the advice from the emergency services
- Avoid contact with flood water. Do not walk, drive or allow children or pets to play in floodwaters.
- If you have to go into the water, wear waterproof gloves and rubber boots and remember to be careful of hidden dangers.
- Keep any open cuts or sores clean and dry. Wear waterproof plasters and bandages can help.
- Wash your hands especially after going to the toilet, before eating or preparing food - this is the most important way to get rid of harmful bugs.
- If you do not have clean water, use hand sanitiser gel or wet wipes.
- If you become ill after accidentally swallowing floodwater or mud, particularly if you develop diarrhoea, a fever or stomach pains within 10 days of being in contact with floodwater or sewage - contact NHS Direct 111 or your doctor.
- Do not switch on electrical appliances that have been in contact with floodwater until a qualified electrician has checked them as there is a risk of electrocution.
- Have your heating and cooking appliances serviced by a Gas Safe engineer, even if they seem to be working normally. There is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if they are not working properly
